PRF
A Fibrin-Rich Regenerative Treatment
Platelet-Rich Fibrin, or PRF, is an autologous regenerative treatment prepared from the patient’s own blood. It shares some principles with PRP but uses a different preparation process, producing a fibrin-rich matrix containing platelets and other naturally occurring blood components.
PRF is increasingly used within regenerative and aesthetic medicine where the objective is to support tissue quality rather than simply create immediate volume. At YT Medical, it may be considered for selected facial, skin and hair-restoration concerns following an individual assessment.
How Does PRF Differ From PRP?
Both PRP and PRF begin with a blood sample that is processed using a centrifuge, but differences in preparation affect the final product. PRF creates a fibrin-rich structure within which platelets and other cellular components are retained, whereas conventional PRP produces a more fluid platelet-rich plasma preparation.
Neither treatment should automatically be regarded as superior. PRP has been used and studied for longer across many indications, while PRF represents a developing regenerative approach. The appropriate choice depends on what is being treated, the desired treatment characteristics and the patient’s wider plan.
Where May PRF Be Used?
PRF may be considered where the objective is to support skin quality, texture and tissue regeneration, including selected facial areas where a subtle regenerative approach is preferred. It may also be incorporated into scar-remodelling strategies or other regenerative treatment programmes where appropriate.
Within hair restoration, PRF is used separately as a scalp treatment for suitable patients with functioning follicles. The Hair Restoration pathway includes its own assessment and treatment planning because hair loss must first be appropriately identified.
Treatment and Recovery
Once the patient’s blood has been processed, the PRF preparation is introduced into the selected treatment area. Treatment technique and amount depend on the indication and individual anatomy.
As with other injectable procedures, temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur. Regenerative changes develop progressively, so results should be considered over an appropriate period rather than expecting an immediate final outcome after treatment.
Choosing the Right Regenerative Approach
PRF is one of several regenerative options available at YT Medical. Depending on your concern, alternatives such as PRP, polynucleotides, biostimulatory injectables or a combination with another procedure may be considered.
The purpose of consultation is to choose the approach that fits the patient rather than fitting every patient to the same treatment.
