Acne & Acne Scar Treatment
Treating Acne According to What Is Present
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that can involve blackheads, whiteheads, inflammatory spots, pustules, deeper nodules and increased oil production. It can also leave persistent redness, pigmentation and permanent scarring after active breakouts have settled. Because these concerns require different approaches, effective treatment begins by identifying whether the priority is active acne, post-acne marks or established acne scarring.
At YT Medical, laser-based treatments may be considered as part of a wider approach for selected patients. Pico and carbon-assisted laser techniques can have applications within acne and skin-rejuvenation treatment, but laser should not automatically replace established medical acne management where active inflammatory disease requires appropriate assessment and treatment.
Laser Treatment for Active Acne
Selected laser and light-based treatments have been investigated for their ability to improve inflammatory acne, oiliness and aspects of skin texture. Carbon-assisted laser treatment may also be considered where congestion, seborrhoea and inflammatory lesions are contributing to the overall concern.
The appropriate treatment depends on acne severity and type. Mild or moderate concerns may sometimes be managed within a skin-treatment programme, while persistent, severe, painful or nodulocystic acne may require medical treatment through a GP or dermatology pathway. Preventing further permanent scarring is more important than repeatedly treating the surface of skin while significant active disease continues.
Acne Marks and Pigmentation
After an acne lesion heals, the skin can remain red or develop darker post-inflammatory pigmentation. These marks are not necessarily scars and should be distinguished from permanent changes in skin structure.
Laser treatment may have a role for selected residual pigmentation, but suitability depends on skin type, the nature of the pigment and whether active acne remains present. Post-inflammatory pigmentation can also worsen if the skin is treated too aggressively, so conservative treatment planning and sun protection are particularly important.
What About Acne Scars?
Depressed acne scars develop when inflammation permanently alters the structure of the skin. Pico technology has been investigated for selected atrophic acne scars and may provide a lower-downtime approach in suitable patients, but deeper or more established scarring may respond better to treatments such as Fractional CO₂ Laser or Medical Microneedling.
Different scar types frequently occur together, so the best programme may involve more than one technique. YT Medical provides a dedicated acne-scar assessment where the scar pattern can be examined before treatment is selected.

A Planned Skin Programme
Acne often requires patience. Rather than continually changing procedures, treatment should have a clear objective and enough time to assess response. Depending on your skin, this may involve laser treatment alongside appropriate skincare or another professional treatment, while patients requiring prescription management can be directed towards an appropriate medical pathway.
No laser can guarantee permanent freedom from acne because new breakouts can be influenced by hormones, genetics, skincare and other biological factors.
Book an Acne Consultation
If you are concerned about active acne, persistent post-acne marks or the early development of scarring, arrange a consultation at YT Medical so that the different elements can be assessed before treatment is recommended.
