Facial Laser Hair Removal
Managing Unwanted Facial Hair
Unwanted facial hair can be a source of significant frustration, particularly when shaving, waxing, threading or plucking needs to be repeated frequently. Facial Laser Hair Removal provides a longer-term approach by targeting suitable pigmented hairs at the follicle, with repeated treatments producing progressive reduction over time.
At YT Medical, facial treatment is planned according to the location, hair thickness, colour, skin type and possible cause of the hair growth. The face can be more hormonally influenced than many body areas, so realistic expectations and appropriate assessment are particularly important.
Which Facial Areas Can Be Treated?
Depending on the individual, laser treatment may be considered for areas including the upper lip, chin, jawline, cheeks, sideburn area and selected areas of the neck. Several regions can be combined where unwanted growth affects more than one part of the face.
Hair needs to contain sufficient pigment for the laser to target it effectively. Fine, very light, white, grey or some red facial hairs may therefore not respond well to laser treatment, and another hair-removal method may be more appropriate.
Hormonal Facial Hair Growth
Facial hair growth can be influenced by hormones, and some women develop increased coarse hair as a result of conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome or other causes of androgen excess. Hormonal hair growth can still be treated cosmetically in suitable patients, but new follicles may become active over time even where previously treated hairs have responded well.
Where increased facial hair appears suddenly or occurs alongside symptoms such as irregular periods, acne, scalp hair thinning or other hormonal changes, we may recommend appropriate medical investigation rather than treating the visible hair alone.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Hair is treated during its active growth phase, which means a course of appointments is required. The interval between treatments allows another group of follicles to enter a stage where they can respond effectively.
Temporary redness, warmth and mild follicular swelling can occur after facial laser treatment. The skin should be protected carefully from excessive sun exposure throughout the course, and patients should follow the preparation and aftercare advice provided by the clinic.
Because facial skin is highly visible, treatment settings are selected conservatively according to skin and hair characteristics to balance effective treatment with appropriate safety.
Hair Removal Between Appointments
Waxing, threading, epilation and plucking remove hair from the follicle and can interfere with the laser treatment process, so these methods generally need to be avoided during a course. Shaving or trimming may instead be recommended where hair needs to be managed between appointments.
Patients should also follow the clinic’s guidance about active skincare, tanning products and sun exposure around treatment dates.
Results and Maintenance
The aim is progressive long-term reduction rather than a guarantee that every facial hair will disappear permanently. Response depends on hair colour, thickness, treatment area, hormonal influences and individual biology.
Some patients achieve a substantial lasting reduction following their initial course but choose occasional maintenance treatment if new or finer hairs appear over time.
