Laser Hair Retention Therapy™
Supporting Existing Hair Without Surgery
Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ is a non-invasive treatment pathway for selected patients experiencing progressive thinning or pattern hair loss.
The treatment uses low-level light or laser technology directed at the scalp. This type of therapy has been investigated for its potential to support functioning hair follicles and improve measures such as hair density in some patients with androgenetic alopecia.
At YT Medical, laser therapy is not treated as a universal solution for hair loss. It is considered following assessment of the underlying condition, existing follicles, scalp health and the patient’s wider hair-restoration objectives.
Who May Be Suitable?
Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ may be considered for selected patients experiencing:
- Male Pattern Hair Loss
- Female Pattern Hair Loss
- Early or progressive thinning
- Reduced hair density
- Follicular miniaturisation
- A desire to preserve and support existing hair
The treatment relies on viable hair follicles being present. It cannot recreate follicles that have been permanently destroyed by established scarring alopecia.
Likewise, patients experiencing temporary shedding or an active inflammatory scalp disorder may require investigation or management of the underlying condition before a hair-retention programme is considered.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Treatment is non-surgical and does not involve injections, incisions or removal of scalp tissue.
Controlled low-level light is delivered to the scalp according to the treatment protocol recommended for the patient.
Hair grows through a slow biological cycle, so Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ is generally undertaken as a course rather than as a one-off treatment. Any response needs to be assessed over an appropriate period of time rather than immediately following an individual session.
Part of a Wider Hair Restoration Plan
For some patients, laser treatment may be used as a standalone supportive therapy. For others, it may form one element of a broader hair-restoration strategy.
Depending on your assessment, this could include:
- Medical hair-loss management
- PRP or PRF
- Regenerative hair treatments
- Hair and scalp therapies
- HILO Hair Restoration™
- Hair transplantation
- Ongoing monitoring
More treatment is not automatically better. Our approach is to recommend only the options considered appropriate for the individual.
Monitoring Your Progress
Where treatment forms part of an ongoing programme, progress may be reviewed through clinical assessment, standardised photography and digital trichoscopy where appropriate.
This helps us consider changes over time and decide whether the treatment plan should be continued, adjusted or reviewed.
Is Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ Right for Me?
The first step is establishing what type of hair loss you are experiencing.
A Hair & Scalp Assessment allows us to examine your existing follicles, assess your scalp and discuss whether Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ has an appropriate role within your treatment plan.
