Non-Invasive Light-Based Hair Support

LED Light Therapy uses controlled wavelengths of light directed at the scalp without injections, surgery or removal of tissue.

Light-based therapies are used within hair restoration for their potential effects on functioning hair follicles and the surrounding scalp environment.

At YT Medical, LED Light Therapy is considered as a supportive treatment for selected patients rather than as a universal solution for every form of hair loss.

How Does LED Light Therapy Work?

LED devices deliver low-intensity light to the treatment area.

This type of treatment is commonly described as photobiomodulation. The light is intended to interact with biological processes within the tissue without producing the heat or tissue removal associated with higher-energy surgical and resurfacing lasers.

Low-level light and laser treatments have been studied particularly in androgenetic alopecia. Current British Association of Dermatologists guidance notes that some research suggests low-level laser light may improve hair growth, while also emphasising that further research is required.

Who May Be Suitable?

LED Light Therapy may be considered for selected patients experiencing:

  • Male Pattern Hair Loss
  • Female Pattern Hair Loss
  • Progressive thinning
  • Reduced hair density
  • Follicular miniaturisation
  • A desire to support existing hair

The treatment requires functioning follicles to be present.

It cannot recreate follicles that have been permanently destroyed by established scarring alopecia.

Patients with significant scalp inflammation, unexplained shedding or suspected inflammatory hair loss may require further assessment before light therapy is considered.

What Does Treatment Involve?

The scalp is exposed to controlled light for a specified period according to the treatment protocol.

There are no needles or incisions involved in the LED treatment itself, and treatment does not require surgical downtime.

Because the hair-growth cycle is slow, LED Light Therapy is generally considered as a course rather than a one-off treatment.

Any response should be assessed over a meaningful period of time.

Part of a Wider Hair Restoration Programme

LED Light Therapy may sometimes complement other appropriate treatments, including:

  • PRP or PRF
  • Medical Microneedling
  • Regenerative Hair Restoration
  • Scalp therapies
  • Laser Hair Retention Therapy™
  • Hair transplantation

Not every patient requires combination treatment. The appropriate approach depends on the underlying diagnosis and individual objectives.
