Polynucleotide Hair Therapy
Regenerative Support for the Hair and Scalp
Polynucleotide Therapy is a regenerative treatment increasingly used within aesthetic and tissue-repair medicine.
Polynucleotides are purified chains of nucleotides — the building blocks found within DNA — and are used in regenerative treatments intended to support tissue quality and repair processes.
At YT Medical, Polynucleotide Hair Therapy may be considered as part of a wider treatment programme for selected patients experiencing thinning or changes in hair quality.
How Do Polynucleotides Work?
Polynucleotide treatments are used within regenerative medicine because of their interaction with biological processes involved in tissue repair and cellular activity.
Most established clinical research involving injectable polynucleotides currently relates to skin quality, tissue regeneration and aesthetic medicine, rather than hair loss specifically. Reviews have reported encouraging regenerative effects but also emphasise that the overall evidence base remains relatively small and treatment protocols are not yet fully standardised.
Their use within hair restoration should therefore be considered within this emerging evidence base.
Who May Be Suitable?
Polynucleotide Hair Therapy may be considered for selected patients with viable follicles who are experiencing:
- Progressive hair thinning
- Reduced density
- Changes in hair quality
- Early follicular miniaturisation
- A desire to support the scalp environment as part of a wider programme
The treatment is not appropriate for every form of hair loss and cannot regenerate follicles that have already been permanently destroyed.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Treatment is planned according to the individual patient and the product or protocol being used.
Because hair grows gradually, regenerative treatments should not be expected to produce an immediate visible change. Any response should be considered over an appropriate period and in the context of the patient’s underlying hair-loss condition.
Where appropriate, progress may be reviewed through photography, clinical examination or digital trichoscopy.
Part of a Wider Hair Restoration Strategy
Polynucleotide treatment may sometimes be considered alongside other appropriate options such as PRP or PRF, Medical Microneedling, Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ or other aspects of a personalised hair-restoration programme.
The purpose is not to combine as many treatments as possible, but to select interventions that have a reasonable role for the individual patient.
