Hair mesotherapy describes the delivery of small amounts of selected treatment substances directly into the superficial tissues of the scalp.

Rather than referring to one specific medication or formula, mesotherapy is a method of delivery. Different preparations may contain different active ingredients depending on the treatment objective and the individual patient.

At YT Medical, mesotherapy is considered only following assessment of the underlying hair-loss condition and the suitability of the proposed treatment.

How Does Hair Mesotherapy Work?

During treatment, small quantities of the selected preparation are administered across targeted areas of the scalp using a series of superficial injections.

The intention is to deliver the chosen treatment locally to areas affected by thinning.

Because different mesotherapy formulations contain different ingredients, the expected action, suitability, treatment schedule and potential risks depend on exactly what is being administered.

This will be explained during consultation before treatment is undertaken.

Who May Be Suitable?

Mesotherapy may be considered for selected patients experiencing concerns such as:

• Male Pattern Hair Loss
• Female Pattern Hair Loss
• Progressive thinning
• Reduced hair density
• Follicular miniaturisation

Assessment is important because not every cause of hair loss will benefit from this approach.

For example, a patient with active scarring alopecia, unexplained diffuse shedding or significant scalp inflammation may require investigation or medical management rather than immediately beginning mesotherapy.

What Does the Evidence Show?

Mesotherapy has been investigated using a number of different injectable formulations for androgenetic alopecia.

A 2026 systematic review identified studies reporting improvements in measures including hair density and shaft diameter. However, treatment techniques, ingredients, doses and schedules varied substantially between studies, and the authors concluded that larger, standardised randomised trials are still needed before injectable mesotherapy can be regarded as routine treatment for androgenetic alopecia.

This variation is why it is important to consider the specific treatment being administered, rather than treating “mesotherapy” as one uniform procedure.

What Can I Expect From Treatment?

Hair mesotherapy is generally undertaken as part of a planned course rather than as a single treatment.

The exact schedule will depend on the formulation used and the patient’s individual treatment plan.

Temporary effects related to scalp injections can occur, including tenderness, redness, swelling or sensitivity. Published research has also reported less common complications, reinforcing the importance of appropriate product selection and clinical technique.
