PRP Hair Restoration
A Regenerative Approach to Thinning Hair
Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is an autologous regenerative treatment using a concentrated preparation made from the patient’s own blood.
PRP has been widely investigated as a treatment for hair loss, particularly male and female pattern hair loss, where functioning but increasingly miniaturised follicles remain.
At YT Medical, PRP is provided as part of a wider assessment-led hair-restoration pathway rather than as an automatic treatment for anybody experiencing hair loss.
How Does PRP Hair Treatment Work?
A small sample of blood is taken and processed using a specialist centrifuge.
This separates the blood into different components and allows the platelet-rich plasma to be prepared for treatment.
The PRP is then introduced into selected areas of the scalp.
Platelets contain naturally occurring proteins and growth factors involved in tissue repair and cell signalling. These properties are the basis for the use of PRP within regenerative hair restoration.
Who May Be Suitable for PRP?
PRP may be considered for selected patients with viable hair follicles, particularly those experiencing:
- Male Pattern Hair Loss
- Female Pattern Hair Loss
- Progressive thinning
- Reduced hair density
- Hair-shaft miniaturisation
Suitability depends on the cause and stage of hair loss.
PRP cannot recreate hair follicles that have been permanently destroyed by scarring, and it should not replace appropriate investigation of an underlying medical or inflammatory condition.
PRP Treatment Options at YT Medical
YT Medical offers different PRP treatment levels:
- PRP
- PRP Advanced
- PRP Ultimate
These allow treatment to be tailored according to the patient’s individual hair-restoration plan.
The differences between the options, recommended treatment course and any complementary treatments will be discussed during consultation.
What Results Can I Expect?
PRP should be approached as a treatment programme rather than an instant solution.
Clinical studies suggest that PRP may improve measures such as hair density and hair count in some patients with androgenetic alopecia, but individual results vary.
Factors that may influence response include:
- Type of hair loss
- Degree of follicular miniaturisation
- Existing density
- Age and general health
- Treatment consistency
- Individual biological response
No specific degree of regrowth can be guaranteed.
Monitoring Treatment
Because hair growth is slow, progress is generally assessed over a period of months.
Where appropriate, we may use photography, clinical assessment and digital trichoscopy to monitor changes in density and hair characteristics.
Book a PRP Hair Consultation
If you are considering PRP for thinning or pattern hair loss, the first step is a Hair & Scalp Assessment.
This allows us to determine whether PRP has an appropriate role within your individual hair-restoration plan.
