A Complete Approach to Hair Loss and Hair Restoration

The YT Medical Hair Restoration Centre provides a comprehensive pathway for people experiencing hair thinning, excessive shedding, patchy hair loss, scalp concerns or more advanced permanent hair loss. Rather than beginning with a particular treatment, our approach starts by understanding why the hair is being lost, whether the follicles remain viable and what form of restoration is realistically appropriate.

Hair loss is not one condition. It can develop gradually through Male or Female Pattern Hair Loss, appear suddenly through Telogen Effluvium, occur in patches with Alopecia Areata, result from repeated tension in Traction Alopecia or develop as part of an inflammatory or scarring process. Scalp conditions can also affect comfort, inflammation and overall hair health. Identifying these differences is fundamental because treatments that may help one type of hair loss can be inappropriate for another.

Our Hair Restoration Centre brings together Hair & Scalp Assessment, Digital Trichoscopy, diagnostic Blood Testing, non-surgical hair-restoration treatments, scalp therapies, Hair Replacement and Hair Transplantation within a personalised treatment pathway.

Understanding the Cause of Your Hair Loss

Hair loss may be genetic, hormonal, autoimmune, inflammatory, nutritional, mechanical or triggered by illness, medication or significant physiological stress. More than one process can also occur at the same time. For example, somebody with underlying pattern hair loss may experience a period of increased shedding following illness or nutritional deficiency, making their thinning appear to progress suddenly.

YT Medical assesses a wide range of hair and scalp concerns including Female Pattern Hair Loss, Male Pattern Hair Loss, Telogen Effluvium, Alopecia Areata, Traction Alopecia, Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia, CCCA, Lichen Planopilaris and other forms of scarring alopecia, alongside scalp conditions including Seborrhoeic Dermatitis and Scalp Psoriasis.

Establishing the likely diagnosis also helps determine urgency. In non-scarring hair loss, follicles remain present and may retain the potential to produce hair. In a true scarring alopecia, inflammation can permanently destroy follicles, making early recognition and appropriate medical management especially important.

Hair & Scalp Assessment

Your journey can begin with a detailed Hair & Scalp Assessment, including discussion of the pattern and duration of hair loss, medical history, family history, medication, previous treatment and any symptoms affecting the scalp.

Where appropriate, Digital Trichoscopy provides magnified examination of the hair and scalp. This can help identify features such as variation in hair-shaft diameter, follicular miniaturisation, density changes, inflammation and characteristics that help distinguish between different forms of alopecia.

Blood Testing may also be recommended where the history suggests that factors such as iron status, thyroid function, selected nutritional deficiencies or hormonal changes could be contributing to the problem. Testing is targeted to the individual rather than automatically ordering a large panel for every patient.

Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

Where follicles remain capable of producing hair, a range of non-surgical treatment options may be considered according to the condition identified.

YT Medical’s Hair Restoration services include our HILO Hair Restoration™ and Laser Hair Retention Therapy™ pathways alongside platelet-based treatments including PRP and PRF. Regenerative approaches may also include Exosome Therapy, Polynucleotide Therapy, Mesotherapy and other appropriately selected treatments.

For particular hair-loss conditions, a medical pathway may be more appropriate than a regenerative treatment. This can include consultation regarding prescription hair-loss treatment or condition-specific management for selected forms of Alopecia Areata. Where treatment requires prescribing or specialist dermatological input, this follows the appropriate clinical process rather than being treated as a generic hair-growth service.

Hair and Scalp Therapies

Hair restoration is not always about injectable treatment. Selected patients may benefit from supportive therapies designed around scalp condition and follicular health, including Medical Microneedling, LED Light Therapy, Oxygen Scalp Therapy and other appropriately selected scalp treatments.

These therapies do not replace diagnosis or medical management where an inflammatory or scarring scalp disorder is present. Instead, they may form part of a wider programme where their role and expected benefit are clearly understood.

Hair Transplantation

For suitable patients with permanent hair loss and an appropriate donor area, Hair Transplantation can provide a surgical option for restoring hair to areas where follicles have been lost or significantly miniaturised.

A hair transplant works by redistributing suitable donor follicles rather than creating new follicles. This makes careful planning essential. Donor hair is limited, the pattern and likely progression of future hair loss need to be considered, and not every type of alopecia is suitable for transplantation.

At YT Medical, the transplant pathway begins with assessment of the existing hair loss, donor area and long-term restoration goals. Surgery should form part of a wider plan rather than being viewed as a one-off solution that prevents all future hair loss.

Our Hair Restoration Centre also provides Hair Transplant Aftercare and can consider Independent Hair Transplant Referrals where another pathway is more appropriate.

Hair Replacement

Where medical or surgical restoration is not appropriate, has not yet taken effect or simply is not the patient’s preferred option, modern Hair Replacement can provide an immediate non-surgical solution.

YT Medical offers a range of options including Medical Wigs, Hair Toppers, Hair Systems, Mesh Integration and FibreFlex Hair Replacement, with both private and applicable NHS pathways available.

Hair replacement can be considered for people affected by genetic thinning, Alopecia Areata, scarring alopecia, cancer treatment and other causes of partial or extensive hair loss. The appropriate solution depends on the pattern of loss, remaining hair, scalp condition, lifestyle and the level of coverage required.

A Long-Term Hair Restoration Plan

Hair restoration often requires a longer-term view. A treatment may improve density or reduce progression without permanently removing the underlying tendency to lose hair, while a transplant restores selected areas but does not necessarily prevent untreated hair from changing in the future.

We therefore review each patient according to their diagnosis, current level of hair loss, likely progression, treatment response and personal priorities. Some patients require active treatment, some benefit from monitoring, and others may choose Hair Replacement or transplantation as their principal route.

The objective is not to provide as many treatments as possible. It is to develop a plan that makes sense for the condition, preserves future options and gives the patient realistic expectations about what can be achieved.
