Access to a Wider Range of Laboratory Testing

The main YT Medical Blood Testing pages cover many of the investigations patients commonly require, but modern laboratories offer a much wider range of specialist tests than can practically be listed within a standard clinic menu.

Through our laboratory partners, YT Medical can consider requests for specialist biochemical, hormonal, nutritional, immunological and infectious-disease testing where an appropriate assay is available.

If you have been asked by another healthcare professional to obtain a specific investigation, or already know the exact laboratory test you require, contact the clinic and we can confirm availability, sample requirements, preparation and current pricing.

Specialist Hormone and Endocrine Testing

Beyond routine Testosterone, Oestradiol, FSH, LH and Thyroid Function panels, more specialised endocrine investigations may be available according to the clinical requirement.

Examples can include selected measurements relating to adrenal hormones, pituitary function, reproductive hormones and specialist thyroid investigation.

Many hormone tests have strict timing or preparation requirements. Concentrations may vary according to time of day, menstrual-cycle stage, medication or other biological factors, so specialist hormone testing should ideally be requested with a clear understanding of how the result will be interpreted.

Where complex endocrine disease is suspected, an endocrinology assessment may be more appropriate than arranging an increasingly extensive series of private blood tests without specialist oversight.

Advanced Cardiovascular and Metabolic Testing

Additional cardiovascular and metabolic markers can also be considered beyond a routine Lipid Profile and HbA1c.

Depending on availability, this may include tests such as Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), Lipoprotein(a), selected apolipoproteins and other specialist metabolic markers.

These investigations may offer useful additional information in selected circumstances, particularly where there is a strong family history or an apparent discrepancy between standard cholesterol measurements and wider cardiovascular risk.

They should be interpreted alongside established risk factors rather than used as standalone predictors of future disease.

Specialist Nutritional and Trace Element Testing

Where there is a specific clinical reason, additional vitamin, mineral and trace-element testing may be available beyond our standard Vitamins & Minerals panels.

This can include selected measurements of micronutrients and trace elements where dietary restriction, malabsorption, previous surgery, supplementation or another health concern makes testing relevant.

Not every nutrient is reliably assessed through a routine serum measurement, and testing without an appropriate indication can sometimes produce results that are difficult to interpret. YT Medical can therefore confirm whether the requested investigation is appropriate and what type of specimen is required.

Extended Autoimmune and Immunology Testing

Specialist immunological investigations may include specific autoantibodies, extended ENA profiles, complement testing and other disease-specific antibody assays where there is a clear clinical indication.

Broad autoimmune screening is not recommended as a general health check because some autoantibodies occur in people without autoimmune disease. Specialist panels are most useful when selected to investigate a particular clinical possibility or requested by an appropriate healthcare professional.

Positive or complex findings may require Rheumatology, Immunology, Gastroenterology or another specialist service for further interpretation.

Infectious Disease and Immunity Testing

An extended range of infectious-disease serology and immunity testing may also be available for travel, occupational, previous-exposure or specialist clinical purposes.

The correct test depends heavily on the organism being investigated and the timing of possible exposure. Some infections require antibody testing, others antigen or molecular testing, while some require samples other than blood.

Where an infection is suspected because of current symptoms or a significant recent exposure, patients may require an appropriate NHS or specialist infectious-disease pathway rather than elective screening alone.

Tests Requested by Your Doctor or Specialist

If a GP, consultant, fertility clinic, occupational-health department or another healthcare professional has provided a specific list of blood tests, YT Medical may be able to arrange the sample collection and laboratory analysis privately.

Please provide the exact test names and any relevant instructions when making your enquiry. Where possible, we can confirm laboratory availability and any preparation requirements before the appointment is booked.

Results can then be supplied for you to share with the healthcare professional responsible for interpreting them and managing the underlying condition.

Tests That Are Not Appropriate for General Screening

The fact that a laboratory test exists does not mean it provides useful information as a general health screen. Certain specialist tests — including some autoimmune antibodies, hormones and tumour markers — can produce abnormal results in people who do not have the condition with which the marker is associated.

Tumour markers in particular are generally used within specific clinical pathways rather than as broad blood tests for detecting cancer in otherwise healthy people. Where cancer is a concern, established NHS assessment and screening pathways should not be replaced by an indiscriminate private marker panel.

YT Medical may therefore recommend against a requested test where it is unlikely to answer the patient’s question or where a different healthcare pathway would be more appropriate.

If the test you require is not listed within the YT Medical Blood Testing section, contact us with the name of the investigation. We can check whether it is available through our laboratory service and advise you of any preparation, sample or referral requirements.
