Lip Enhancement uses dermal filler to adjust the shape, definition, proportion or volume of the lips. At YT Medical, treatment is planned around the patient’s natural anatomy and facial proportions rather than following a standard lip shape or attempting to create maximum volume.

Some patients want a very subtle improvement in hydration and border definition, while others would like to restore volume that has reduced with age or create greater balance between the upper and lower lip. The amount and placement of filler are therefore tailored to the individual and to the degree of change they actually want.

What Can Lip Filler Address?

Lip filler may be considered to improve volume, definition, shape, symmetry or proportion. It may also be used where age-related changes have reduced lip fullness or softened the definition of the lip border.

During consultation, we assess the lips both at rest and during movement, as well as their relationship with the surrounding features. Natural asymmetry is extremely common and cannot always be removed completely, but careful treatment can sometimes improve overall balance.

The goal is to enhance the existing lips rather than create a shape that does not suit the rest of the face.

What Happens During Treatment?

Following assessment and treatment planning, a suitable hyaluronic-acid filler is introduced using an injection technique appropriate to the desired result. The amount used depends on the patient’s existing anatomy and the treatment objective; more product does not automatically create a better result.

Swelling is common after lip filler and can make the lips appear larger or less even immediately following treatment. Bruising, tenderness and small areas of firmness may also occur. The result should therefore be allowed time to settle before the final appearance is assessed.

Keeping Results Natural

A natural-looking lip treatment is about proportion rather than simply size. Excessive volume can distort the lip border, overwhelm surrounding features or create an appearance that becomes progressively less natural when filler is repeatedly added without appropriate review.

YT Medical takes a conservative approach where appropriate and may recommend staged treatment rather than trying to achieve a large change during one appointment. Existing filler will also be considered before further product is added, particularly where there are concerns about migration, asymmetry or overfilling.

Risks and Considerations

As with all dermal filler procedures, Lip Enhancement carries risks. Common temporary effects include swelling, bruising and tenderness. Less common complications can include infection, persistent lumps, inflammatory reactions, asymmetry and migration.

Vascular complications are rare but potentially serious, which is why lip filler should be treated as a clinical procedure requiring careful anatomical assessment and appropriate complication management.

Cosmetic filler treatment is not provided to patients under 18 in England except within the limited medical circumstances permitted by law.

How Long Does Lip Filler Last?

Lip filler is temporary, and longevity varies between patients. Product choice, amount used, lip movement and individual metabolism can all influence how quickly the effect reduces.

Maintenance can be considered when appropriate, but there is no requirement to continually add filler simply because a particular amount of time has passed.
