Enhancing Lower-Face Balance and Proportion

Chin Augmentation uses dermal filler to alter the projection, contour or proportions of the chin without surgery. The chin has an important relationship with the lips, nose, jawline and overall facial profile, so even relatively subtle changes can influence the balance of the lower face. At YT Medical, treatment is planned according to the patient’s natural anatomy rather than following a standardised chin shape or attempting to create excessive projection.

Some patients naturally have a less prominent chin, while others notice changes in lower-face structure with age. During consultation, we assess the face from different angles and consider how the chin relates to surrounding features before deciding whether filler is appropriate and where additional support may be beneficial.

What Can Chin Filler Address?

Chin filler may be used to increase forward projection, improve the appearance of a recessed chin, create greater definition or adjust aspects of symmetry and proportion. It can also form part of a wider lower-face treatment where the relationship between the chin and jawline is contributing to the patient’s concern.

The objective is generally to create a change that looks appropriate both from the front and in profile. More filler is not necessarily better, and excessive projection or width can alter facial balance in an undesirable way. Treatment is therefore based on the amount of change required rather than a predetermined quantity of product.

What Does Treatment Involve?

A suitable dermal filler is introduced into carefully selected areas of the chin using a needle or cannula according to the treatment plan. Some change is visible immediately, although temporary swelling can affect the appearance during the early settling period. Bruising, tenderness, redness and temporary firmness may also occur following treatment.

Most fillers used for this type of treatment are based on hyaluronic acid and gradually break down over time. The expected longevity varies according to the product selected, amount used, placement and individual metabolism.

Chin and Jawline Treatment

The chin and jawline are closely related, and in some patients treating one area can change how the other is perceived. A patient asking for a stronger jawline may actually benefit more from improving chin projection, while another may require treatment across both areas to create better overall balance.

This is why YT Medical assesses the lower face as a whole rather than treating individual features in isolation. Where another treatment would provide a more appropriate result, this will be discussed during consultation.

Risks and Realistic Expectations

As with all dermal filler procedures, Chin Augmentation can cause temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness or asymmetry during the settling period. Less common complications include infection, persistent lumps, inflammatory reactions and other filler-related problems. Rare vascular complications can be serious, making careful anatomical assessment and appropriate clinical technique essential.

Filler can improve proportion and contour, but it cannot reproduce the degree of structural change achievable through chin surgery where a significant skeletal alteration is required. Your consultation will include an honest discussion of what non-surgical treatment can realistically achieve.
