Dermal Fillers
Restoring Balance, Structure and Proportion
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore or enhance volume, support facial structure and improve selected age-related changes. At YT Medical, filler treatment begins with an assessment of the face as a whole rather than focusing automatically on one feature. Facial proportions, existing volume, skin quality, movement and the patient’s own objectives are considered before any treatment is recommended.
The aim is not to create an exaggerated or standardised appearance. Some patients want to restore volume that has gradually changed with age, while others are interested in subtle enhancement of a particular feature. In both cases, treatment should remain proportionate to the individual’s anatomy and be undertaken only where it is likely to produce a worthwhile improvement.
What Can Dermal Fillers Be Used For?
Depending on the product selected and the patient’s anatomy, dermal fillers may be considered for areas including the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, tear trough and nose, as well as broader facial rejuvenation where changes in volume and structural support affect several areas at once.
Different treatment areas require different techniques and carry different considerations. A filler that is appropriate for structural support in one part of the face may not be appropriate for a more mobile or delicate area. Product selection, placement and quantity are therefore determined according to the treatment objective rather than using the same approach everywhere.
What Does Treatment Involve?
After consultation and treatment planning, filler is introduced using a needle or cannula according to the area being treated. Temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising and redness are common after injectable treatment, and some areas — particularly the lips — may swell more noticeably during the first few days.
Most modern facial fillers used for these treatments are based on hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally within the body and can provide both volume and tissue support when used appropriately. One advantage of many hyaluronic-acid fillers is that they can be dissolved using an appropriate enzyme if clinically necessary, although this does not remove the need for careful treatment planning in the first place.
Risks and Safety
Dermal fillers are medical aesthetic procedures and should not be treated as risk-free beauty treatments. Alongside common temporary effects such as swelling and bruising, less common complications can include infection, persistent lumps, inflammatory reactions, asymmetry or migration.
A rare but particularly serious complication can occur if filler enters or compresses a blood vessel, potentially affecting the blood supply to the skin or, in very rare circumstances, vision. This is why detailed anatomical knowledge, appropriate product selection and the ability to recognise and manage complications are fundamental to safe practice.
The risks relevant to your proposed treatment area will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Dermal fillers are temporary. Longevity varies according to the product, treatment area, amount used, individual metabolism and movement within the area. A highly mobile area such as the lips may behave differently from a more structural treatment elsewhere in the face.
Rather than automatically repeating treatment at fixed intervals, YT Medical encourages review based on how the result has settled and whether additional treatment is genuinely required.
